Today Kenny and I went into the city to check out the Crime and Punishment Museum. But first we had to make a stop at
Gordon Biersch. Any time we go into the city and we are near the Verizon Center, Kenny has to make his obligatory stop at Gordon Biersch. Beer and garlic fries, can’t you just imagine how good our breath was for the rest of the day. The picture below is of Kenny enjoying Gordon Biersch’s version of Oktoberfest.
After lunch we headed over to the Crime and Punishment Museum. We spent the first five-ten minutes looking for a bathroom and none of the employees seemed to know where one was. But that is my only complaint. We definitely recommend that you check it out.
The first part of the museum was about different punishment mechanisms in medieval times. They had this head gear contraption that was used as a torture device, but could also be used by husbands for “nagging” wives. Unfortunately for Kenny one was not available for purchase in the gift shop. Kenny was nice enough to take my picture in this contraption that we can’t remember the name of. Luckily he didn’t throw stuff at me.
We went through a Wild West section that included stuff about Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp and Bonnie and Clyde. Then you go through a mobster section and then on to the “sicko” section about Manson and BTK. We were surprised that they had a little blurb about the Virginia Tech Shootings included.
Then you go through this whole section about what happens when you are arrested. From booking, to fingerprinting, to mug shots. Then Kenny participated in a lineup, and yes he is standing next to Eminem.
There was a section about different methods of execution. There was an electric chair and gas chamber, very creepy! But most importantly there was a guillotine with a basket for the head. Kenny turns to me and says “my mom had that exact laundry basket growing up.” So, is there anything you would like to tell us Ann? (I provided a picture below, in case anyone else’s Mom has one at home.)
There were these two really neat simulators that we got to try out. One was a huge screen that was a story line and you had to shoot the bad guy. Kenny went first and shot a moving target in three out of four shots, which the lady said was good. I had the longer storyline that involved a search of a house and a lot of people getting arrested. I never knew who to shoot. Then I turned the corner and this chick was pointing a gun at me. One shot to the chest and she fell face first and I reigned supreme.
The other simulator was where you were driving a police car and you had to pull over a car that didn’t want to comply. I ended up the grass. Kenny did pretty well and caught the guy and then proceeded to “Demolition Derby” the car.
At the end you see one of the sets for America’s Most Wanted, which was pretty cool. They have this green screen that you it in front of and press this button. John Walsh comes on and starts talking about this person who is wanted and then your picture comes up. Kenny thought it was so funny cause as I’m sitting there John Walsh says “this person has 17 tattoos that all say “Mom”“. Kenny was like that is so perfect for you!
So that was our day at the Crime and Punishment Museum. It was so much fun and we recommend that anyone checks it out. We are hitting up Newseum next.
